Tulsa World Comes After FallinFAIL

It seems the Tulsa World took issue with our recent wag of the finger to the new Governor Elect.  We’re excited to know you’re reading the blog and welcome your comments here anytime.
Sadly, in their editorial opposition they forgot their OWN editorial just five months ago about Mary Fallin and poor voters.

We don’t think that calling on Oklahomans to help the poor by giving canned food items is a BAD thing.  We here at FallinFail think it’s great.  In fact - we went so far as to call on the entire government to spend all of the money it’s using for the upcoming Inaugural Balls to go to feed seniors!

What we do take issue with is that this is nothing more than a photo-op.  A fake politician, with fake sincerity, who is about to sign bills to cut services to the least among us.

When the Governor Elect was a candidate she was caught saying some pretty bad things about poor people, she’s been caught in some pretty bad votes AGAINST poor people, and now we’re to believe she’s being sincere?  Maybe the kids at the Tulsa World were born yesterday, but ya can’t pull the wool over my eyes.

Thus, today we call on the Tulsa World to responsibly report every single instance where funding is cut to any service, school, or center which will prevent the poor from having access to basic food, nutrition, and/or health.  If we really want to talk about the hungry and we really want to talk about reducing poverty in Oklahoma, I think we can all agree that the Tulsa World might ought to be along for the ride.

Mary Fallin Skips Vote That would Support the Poor & Middle Class

As the White House and congressional leaders negotiated over extending the Bush era tax cuts, the House Thursday voted to extend the majority of them, continuing tax rates for lower- and middle-income Americans. …..Twelve members didn’t vote, including two lawmakers who just won statewide races: incoming Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin…

So… right… ya do a photo-op for a canned food drive to feed the hungry, but you are too busy with Obama at the White House to hail a cab and drive the two miles to the Capitol, run in, and cast a vote to put money in the very people’s pockets that would use the canned food??

I’m so confused….. Wonder if the Tulsa World still thinks she cares about the poor…

Ask Mary Fallin to REALLY Stand up for the Hungry

If you read our report about Mary Fallin announcing her support for the Regional Food Bank with a holiday photo-op after voting against the poor and hungry in their time of need then you know all about the hypocrisy that we’ve come to expect.

What we here at FallinFAIL have decided is that maybe we should just cut the whole inauguration altogether.  I mean think about the hundreds of thousands dollars that are going to be spent to feed legislators, lobbyists, and major donors in a time of an economic recession.

What if instead of doing that, the new Governor could donate that money to senior nutrition centers in Oklahoma that will probably end up on the chopping block of upcoming budget cuts.  Sure it wouldn’t be a ton of money that would save all of our senior nutrition centers but it would help and the new Governor could finally put her money where her mouth is.

Imagine what it could be like!  Fallin could announce to Oklahomans that instead of spending all this money on a big fancy ball she will be at the state capitol from 6pm-10pm that evening to any and all who would like to come by and meet her and talk about issues that matter to them.

Set an example…. like a real stateswoman.

UPDATE:  Oh yeah… remember that time Mary said “a poor person never gave anyone a job”… those were good times…

Mary Fallin Fail: Caring about the Poor in a Ball Gown

Sigh…. I’m all for doing what’s right to help feed the hungry, stop poverty, give children health care, and do what we can to help all Oklahomans end the vicious cycle of not having enough to get by.  But this is a little ridiculous, don’t you think?

Once again, Mary Fallin is only pretending to care with a friendly photo-op and an aging smile, but the reality is that while in Congress she consistently voted against programs that would help people who need the food from these food banks.

FACT:  Mary Fallin received an F rating from the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law.  This for such votes as:

Voting against the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2009, the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009, Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, Vision Care for Kids Act of 2009, Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009, and the worst she voted against the Serve America Act, which among other things reauthorized and expanded the National and Community Service Act and Domestic Volunteer Service Act… this just to name a few.

So while these generous platitudes that we see every Christmas from the state capitol might seem happy and fluffy on the surface, wouldn’t it be great if we actually had a governor who cared about poverty beyond the photo-op?

Fallin voted to raise mortgage insurance premiums for high-risk borrowers

Earlier this year we found out that DC Mary hates the poor.  Turns out this isn’t a new feeling for her, Mary has long voted against helping those living in poverty. 

Fallin voted for an amendment that overhauled the Federal Housing Administration‟s (FHA) mortgage lending practices and required the FHA to base each borrower‟s mortgage insurance premiums on the risk that the borrower poses to the FHA Mortgage Insurance Fund.

Mortgage insurance premiums would be based on borrower‟s credit history, loan-to- value ratio, debt-to-income ratio and on FHA‟s historical experience with similar borrowers.

DC Mary loves to vote lock step with her rich DC friends and continuously turn her back on hard working Oklahomans.

Fallin to Poor Voters: “Thanks But No Thanks”

From the Editorial Writers in today’s Tulsa World:

Candidates for political offices often must tell their audiences what they want to hear. It’s one way they get votes. Candidates of both parties do it. That seemed to be the only excuse possible for U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin’s speech to the Tulsa Republican Club recently.
Fallin, who is running for governor of Oklahoma, and 1st District Rep. John Sullivan, who is seeking re-election, took their turns preaching to the choir. 

Both expounded on their notions that the state and federal governments need to tighten their belts; that taxes are a bad thing; that ending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would be economic disaster. 

And Fallin added this oh-so-trite, worn-out Republican bon mot concerning tax breaks for the rich: “I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been offered a job by a poor person.” 

Really? Well, for the past 20 years Fallin’s job has been holding public office. She was elected to the Oklahoma House in 1990, she was elected lieutenant governor three times beginning in 1995 and she has served in Congress since 2006. With the exception of the few years she worked in the hotel business she has been serving, we thought, all the people of the state and her districts. 

She almost certainly received some votes from “poor people.” They might not have offered her a job firsthand, but they had a hand in giving her a job. 

In case Rep. Fallin hasn’t noticed, the poor (or maybe she prefers a label such as “unwealthy” or maybe “less wealthy”) far outnumber the wealthy in Oklahoma. And the poor have the same right to vote as the wealthy. If she’s going to be employed come November, she’s going to need those poor people’s job offers again, whether she likes it not.
